Mozilla has just released an update of its very potential firefox-addon called Ubiquity. I have praised Ubiquity in many of my earlier posts and it is the first add-on I recommend to anyone who uses Firefox. I am taking the risk of being tagged as Ubiquity freak because I have endorsed it like hell in spite of the fact that I have never been paid a single penny by Ubiquity folks. The Ubiquity 0.1.3 comes with many improvements which makes it lot more tempting.

There are like hundreds of tutorials on installing Ubuntu but most of them tend not to provide the screenshots thereby leaving you confused while installing Ubuntu. Here’s a dead simple guide to install Ubuntu. I have done the fresh copy install on a blank hard-disk which does not have an installed version of Windows operating system.

First of all you need an Ubuntu CD from where you can install Ubuntu. You can have a Ubuntu CD by either downloading the setup or installer directly from the Ubuntu site or by requesting a free CD or DVD from Canonical which will deliver you Ubuntu, Edubuntu or Kubuntu CD along with some Ubuntu stickers. I would advise you to request a free CD if you don’t have a broadband connection because the Ubuntu setup is around 700 MB. Do keep in mind that it takes around 2 months with a week or two here and there depending on your location in receiving free Ubuntu CD. Mine took two and a half months though.

Now considering that you are downloading the setup from web, you’ll get an ISO file of around 700 MB after the download. This ISO file is now needed to be burn on a CD which we will use to install Ubuntu. Some of the softwares you can use to burn the downloaded ISO file are Magic ISO, Ultra ISO and ISO Recorder.

Assiuming that you have done the burning stuff and are ready with Ubuntu installation CD, we can now care about the real process of installing Ubuntu. Following is the step by step screenshot tour on installing Ubuntu.

First of all, you get the following instructions when you boot from your CD.

Websites like Amazon were quick to see the need and potential in selling online. It is pure conventional wisdom that men would rather move their fingers and not their legs to buy stuff. You must have fancied using Linux if you really know what it is at least once in your life. If you have used Linux then you might not need what I am going to write here. Today, I will be writing a short tutorial on installing Ubuntu on Windows XP or Vista using Virtualbox.

Virtualbox is a virtualization software which lets you install any operating system on an existing host operating system. In our case, we are going to install Ubuntu on Windows XP.

First of you need to download the free Virtualbox software from the official site of Virtualbox.

The setup file size is around 35MB which shouldn’t take a long time to download if you have broadband connection.

You will get lot of options about which version of the Virtualbox you should install. If you are using a 32 bit Operating System Windows XP then you should install the version -x86. You can however use the other versions as per the need and system requirements. Since I am using Windows XP so I’ll stick to the the x86 version.

The times are not what they used to be in the browser world and recent developments like launch of Google Chrome in particular has definitely hasten up things a little. Mozilla Firefox is also doing what ever it can to make browsing more IE-free and it has also challenges in the formof continuing to deliver on the expectations of users. Firefox recently announced that they are putting an end to support Firefox 2.0 which I believe is a good thing because the latest Firefox 3.0 is more safe and arguably faster. All eyes are on the final release of Firefox 3.1 now which will have some significant changes in the form of incorporation of Tracemonkey which will speed up programs written in JavaScript.

I believe that continuing browser wars will bring some awareness to the general web users and they’ll give up their Internet Explorers in favor of Mozilla Firefox or even Google Chrome. I also believe that more and more people will switch to Mozilla Firefox in coming years. This post is meant to help those users who want to make the change.

Firefox is a fast web browser but if you want to push its limits a little bit in order to gain an extra edge in its speed then you can do certain tweaks that I have mentioned in one of my post on JustSkins.

5 Firefox tips and tricks to speed it up

The beauty of Firefox is in its range of extensions and following are 10 extensions which you should install just after installing Firefox 3.

These are the 10 Firefox extensions you can install to kicstart your browsing.

Ubiquity is an experimental add-on but it is one of the most powerful extension ever made for Firefox. A little command is all you need to perform actions. You can do anything from tweeting to submitting a story on digg with the help of this extension.

Google turns out to be your best friend whenever you need to learn something new and it’s the case pretty much always when you need to find some tutorials on various Content Management Systems and other similar stuff. I recently stumbled into a wiki which could be a nice resource if you are looking for comprehensive tutorials on designing web themes and templates on a wide range of Content Management Systems and related software.

Some of the better tutorial wikis on this site called Themeswiki are “customizing drupal 6 themes,”"creating php templates,” and “creating joomla templates” etc. If you are into tweaking and messing with code then you would definitely find something of interest. Just thought you might like it.
