February 20th, 20093 Firefox Twitter Extensions you must install
I did a post on Firefox extensions for an Information Whore some time back and it was that phase when I used to spend over five hours daily reading RSS feeds of various websites. Things have improved a little but my latest obsession is now Twitter and I end up spending the whole day reading tweets of others and posting some of my own chirps.
I have used almost every Twitter plugin made for Mozilla Firefox and I have now come to a conclusion about certain Firefox extensions which I’d suggest to anyone who does a lot of tweeting. I don’t think there’s need of too many extensions to do something as simple as tweeting and I never recommend loading your Firefox with unnecessary plugins as it impacts the responsiveness of Firefox.
TwitterFox in my opinion is the best Firefox Twitter plugin to tweet and reply to the tweets of others. It is not as comprehensive and feature rich as some of the other Firefox based Twitter clients are but has enough to get you started and rolling. Twitterfox can shorten the URL of the page you are at while the clear and crisp separation of Recent Tweets, Replies and Direct Messages gives it an edge in the usability aspect. The fact that you can use different Twitter accounts at the same time is indeed very helpful too.
Twitter Reveal is one plugin which doesn’t come in the limelight very often but you’d love it if you have an active interest in finding new twitter users while browsing the web. It enables the auto discovery of twitter users without really making it appear that this plugin is even installed in your Firefox. Twitter Reveal works in a way that when you stumble into a page which has a twitter link then it would display the twitter icon just before the RSS icon in the address bar. Clicking on this twitter icon would yield you the link of these Twitter users that Twitter Reveal has found. It won’t be wrong to say that Twitter Reveal is the Stumbleupon for any Twitter Whore.
Tw-Autocomplete is an awesome Firefox extension and offers a functionality that we would expect Twitter provides natively. It adds autocomplete support for replies (@-messages) and direct messages (d-messages) to Twitter which would help you so much if you are a high profile twitter users with hundreds of twitter followers. If you are following many people then it’s not easy to remember the name of everyone and this plugin will help you in suggesting as you type in Twitter.
