One of the reason why we waste so much of our time when all we gave to do is mere status update on web is the human’s curiosity to know. You open Facebook to just tell about the last movie you watched but end up wasting an hour stalking what other people are doing and who is now linked to whom. I have been through such circumstances multiple times before and I thought the best way to save the time is to not visit sites like Twitter, Facebook at all.
The tricky thing however is that if I don’t update my status then I’d be bombarded with messages about my know how which would apparently consume even more of time in replying to everyone.
I found two Firefox extensions which would let you update your status across multiple sites, notably Twitter and Facebook. These two extensions omit the need to open the individual sites in my browser and thus end up saving me lot of time.
Firestatus is an experimental Firefox add-on which lets you update your status across Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed. I’m sure that this wouldn’t suffice for most power users who have their accounts on scores of sites but it works fine for me as I’m most active on Twitter and FB. Firestatus also happens to have support for Delicious bookmaking service as well in case the above sites were not tempting enough to make you try this.
Friendbar is another Firefox extension which works pretty similar to Firestatus except that it also allows you to reply to other’s status updates or tweets right from your toolbar.You can get a stream of your friends Facebook photos right on Friendbar & roll over the photos to view an enlarged version.
Power Twitter is basically a Twitter client but it has squeezed in the functionality of updating Facebook status along with regular tweets.
