    Default 100Mb network card problem

    Hello,

I'm trying to get an old RS6000 (43p) onto a 100Mb ethernet switch.
The problem is that it only seems to work partly in 10Mb mode (but then
    I only get 10 to 20 kB/s throughput).
Even when I set media_speed to 100Mb (full or half duplex) I can't
get any data to/from the network. The switch shows link and 100Mb
leds for the port but the card in the machine only once in a while
blinks its 100Mb led. The full duplex led on the card always stays
    off no matter what media_speed.
All other systems on the switch (mostly intel boxes) work perfectly
    in 100Mb full duplex.

When connecting the rs6000 directly to another system using a cross
    cable things work great!!!

The card is an: IBM 10/100 Mbps Ethernet PCI Adapter (23100020)
AIX level is 5.1 ML 4.

    Any tips or hints?

Ensure that the port on your switch is set to 100FD rather than
auto-negotiate and configure your RS6k NIC to 100FD.

    It's a common problem on RS6ks.

Hi, are the settings of the switch 100/FD? What is "entstat -d entx"
    saying?
On my experience, it only works propper when both sides are set to
    100/FD.
Sometimes the patch cabel has a insulate contact or the cable is too
long. Or its no cat 5 cable.
