I know I mentioned it in the earlier original post, but just so there is no
confusion...........
These are an aftermarket BP511, 1300mAh, cells from Japan, casing assembled
in China.

They fit very well... and look virtually identical except for the canon
printing.

Well if you read the post, I did say "cells form Japan Casing assembled in
China"
If you think the Chinese don't know how to injection mould a piece of
plastic....I think you are mistaken.
FYI:
AFAIK the Canon originals are also assembled in China. To fit an "origin
label" as in "Made in XXXXX" label on a product you only need 60% content
from the country you are claiming it to be manufactured in. A large
percentage of the plastic mouldings for the D30/D60/10D/1Ds are also
injection moulded in China & Korea.
So the short and obvious answer to your question is surprise surprise...No.

I've spent reasonable amounts of time in both countries, and yes, I'll
agree that they are different, but I'm interested in your reasons for
saying so...

or so, particularly the government's diversion of large chunks of
resources into developing their own manufacturing and technology
sectors that they can use to compete with the rest of the world, you'd
have noticed that the Chinese Central Committee is fast turning into
the Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
Of course, I wouldn't have expected you to react any differently than
to say "no it isn't" with a random personal attack throw on the
end. Perhaps you should learn to structure your arguments better?
Oh, and top-posting is the sign of a weak and lazy mind.

to the Japanese firms a decade ago. Don't you have any grasp of

context, and then let fly with another poor attempt at a snide remark?
