Default 12 inch PowerBook vs iBook

    Hi,

I have a 800mHz iBook and I was thinking of getting a 12 PowerBook. Is the
PowerBook much better or are they close enough in performance and features that
I should just keep the iBook.

    thanks

Unless you need the superDrive and are working with video.

Very little difference in performance. Unless you need some of the
extra features, such as the SuperDriver or the extended desktop support
with an external monitor (which I believe can be hacked up on the iBook
anyway) stick with what you have until a new 12" PowerBook comes out
down the line which is a more significant upgrade.

hold on to the iBook for now. When the 12 inch PowerBook is speed bumped
(please be soon!) it might be a better contender than it is now. The
lack of an L3 cache really mars an otherwise great computer.

Only get the PB if you need:

    - altivec

    - desktop extending (although there is a hack to allow the iBook to do
this, but it is not risk-free and will void your warranty)

    - superdrive
