Do a Google search (or even a search on eBay) for "eBay powerbook scam".

Better yet, place a losing bid on a PB on eBay, and see how many people
write to you offering you an identical PB at a throwaway price for a
    variety of inventive reasons.

Ask yourself this question, "If new PBs were to be had this cheaply, would
not everyone else be purchasing them on eBay?"

    Caveat emptor.

If someone is listing a 17" PB for a grand on eBay, it's either:

    1) stolen, or
    2) fraud.
