Gears and pulleys? Interesting. That v8 engine in there makes a lot of
    noise too. Sigh.

Gee, no -- you're the first one to think of doing that. 8;)

The 1GB works fine in the 5000; why would you think it would be a
problem in the 5400 or 5700?

Although I believe you need the FAT32 file system to go over 2GB.

    So the rumours go.

I note that this assumes that a max cluster size of 32kb is used. I
know of at least two cams that can use 64k clusters in fat16.
This suggests that they may be able to use 4gb.

I routinely use Lexar 256 MB CF cards in my 5700. I also have a
Promaster 512 MB and a Lexar 1 GB and those work just fine as well.
Unless I think I'll be needing a lot of memory, I prefer to carry the
smaller cards simply because I'd be out a lot less money if I lost one
of them. Most of the time, the JPEG modes are fine for my needs, so I
can leave the bigger cards at home. If you like to shoot raw or TIFF
modes, though, you'll want more memory.
