2 colour logo
Is there an easy way I can convert a logo created in Photoshop into a 2 colour logo in Illustrator. It would be too difficult to re-create fom scratch.

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
Without seeing the logo it's impossible to answer your question precisely. In general, if the logo is solid colors, it would be best to trace it in AI and assign spot colors. If it has grayscale elements, and the PSD file is hi-res, it is possible to convert the file to spot colors within PSD (using spot channels), and save your file as a DCS 2.0 file which will separate as spot colors. The steps to do this are a little involved (and depend on your logo). If you can give a little more info perhaps we can help you figure out the best solution.

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
The logo is a yellow blob (its for car wax) and has an effect on it which i think is glass. Anyway the effect means that the yellow blob has uneven sqaure type shapes in blue around the outside but on top of the yellow. Sorry if I'm not explaining it very well!
My problem was how to get this effect as a seperate layer from the yellow blob

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
Again, generally, you can convert effects to layers then move the layer information to spot channels. You will need to manually "knock-out" areas if you don't want the spot colors to overprint because this does not happen automatically.
If you would like to send a copy of the file to me (click my name), I'd be willing to look at it and give you a better idea how to convert to spots.

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
There are a lot of issues in dealing with DCS images in Illustrator. If you are using the CS version, use psd or pdfs instead when placing spot Photoshop channel data in Illustrator CS.

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
I wasn't suggesting placing the DCS in AI. DCS is just an alternative method of getting a spot graphic for use in a page layout file.

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
I've found it useful to create individual spot plates in PS and place them into AICS as individual grayscale files. Then use opacity masks to color them with spot colors. Works like a charm.

Re: Converting a photoshop logo into a 2 colour Illustrator logo
That's exactly what I was going to suggest, Mordy. I do that almost every day sepping out 8 color screenprint jobs. Extremely effective. I would have mentioned setting overprint, but I suppose that varies job to job.
