#25436 [NEW]: Encoding: AutoSelect on IE6 doesn't work - PHP Development

It's because META..cht= in HTML text has _lower priority_ than encoding specified in HTTP Header - by Web standards. And what you do in Apache *is* preparing an HTTP Header! See: a) http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/cht.html where you can read about HTTP Header and http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec14.html b) Check *your* HTTP Header and Cht value in it via this page: http://www.delorie.com/web/headers.html -- Regards, Paul Gorodyansky "Cyrillic (Russian): instructions for Windows and Internet": http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PaulGor/...

It's because META..cht= in HTML text has _lower priority_ than
encoding specified in HTTP Header - by Web standards.
And what you do in Apache *is* preparing an HTTP Header!

See:
a) http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/cht.html
where you can read about HTTP Header
and
http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec14.html

b) Check *your* HTTP Header and Cht value in it
via this page:

By the way, AutoSelect has nothing to do with that -
AutoSelect is ONLY for such cases
+when a page does NOT tell a browser what the endcoding is+ -
then IE tries to guess.

In your case you do tell IE what encoding is - windows-1257 -
via Cht value of HTTP Header that is sent from your Web server
along with the page itself...
