3.0.1 crashing with selection tool

Windows XP SP1, Dell P III 640K ram. Installed the update and receive the following error box most every time I click with the selection tool.

"Indesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft about this problem."

I have tried the safe mode install, preferences deletion, and Norton. Any ideas before I reinstall ?

Probably your InDesign CS (before update) is beta version. You can see in Help > Cntr + About InDesign in no-updated program. If InDesign.exe version is 404, it's beta. As someone in this forum said, sorry, no luck.

Is this with every document or just one specific document.

Thank you for responding. It happens with the 3 older IDCS documents I tried as well as if I create a new document.

Since you've tried everything else, let's go the longshot route. Turn
your hardware acceleration down to zero and see if that fixes it. If it
does, that's indicative of a video driver problem and you'll need an update.

The update was successful. A beta would not have been updatable.
