3D : Extrude pie chart pieces to different extruded depths

    Default 3D : Extrude pie chart pieces to different extruded depths

    I want to make a 3D pie chart with one of the pie pieces not as deep (i.e. extruded) as other piece(s).

    First, I created a pie chart and the then pulled one of the pie pieces away from the other. I selected the first piece and created a 3D shape with a small extruded depth (the x,y,z values were all non-zero so the piece was rotated in all 3 dimension). Next I selected the other pie piece and made it 3D using the exact same parameters as the first piece except I used a larger extruded depth (in effect the piece appeared "thicker")

    I figured this would create the 2 sections to be oriented the same in 3D space but with one piece thicker than the other. Unfortunately, even though I used the same x, y, z and perspective the pie pieces no longer look like they would fit together (i.e. the pie chart can't be reconstructed if you pushed the two pieces together since they are orientated differently).

    Shouldn't 2 pieces transformed using the 3D Extrude & Bevel be on the same 3D plane if the x, y, z and perspective values are the same?

    I even tried creating the two pieces extruded flat (x=-90, y=o, z=0) and then used 3D Rotate to orient them in 3D space but the 3D Rotate doesn't seem to be able to cope properly with rotating an existing 3D object.

    Sorry. The version of 3D in AI CS supports on a single object (or group or compound path) in a 3D scene. In other words, you can have multiple objects in the scene, but they all have to be extruded or revolved the same. Hopefully, we'll get support for creating 3D scenes (like Dimensions) in the next version of Illustrator. It's high on my request list.
