3D Performance too low - Macromedia Director 3D

Hi, i' ve modelled a high detailed 3D model of car in 3D Studio Max 5.1. The export of the model into shockwave 3D works but the performance is very bad. When i turn or zoom the model, it goes very slow. Can anybody give me some tips, how to optimize the model for shockwave 3D-format ? Any suggestions appreciated ! Thanx. Daniel...

    Hi Karl,

    thanx for your reply.

    Just two little questions more:

    1. Is it better to attach two models, so that they are one mesh or is it better to group them only.
    2. Whats meant with shaders? I know, its a shame but although i often heard this item, i haven' t concered with it yet. Are shaders dependent to lights? And how can i decrease them?
    Thanx,

    Daniel

    You're welcome.

    1. When you group some models, the Shockwave 3D exporter plugin will turn
them into one model. You don't have to wield models together if you want to
turn them into one model only. Wielding is used for modelling purposes,
notably to avoid display glitches (e.g white pixels) at a ridge between two
    objects.

    2. A shader (aka material) is a set of properties defining a surface. When
applied to a set of polygons, their apperance is that given by the shader.

    Shader properties:

    - Texture
    - Blend level
    - Diffuse Color: the very color of the model
    - Emissive Color: the illusion of a light emitted from the surface (aka self
    illum)
    - Ambient Color: the proper shadow color of the model
    - Specular Color: the color of the reflection stain on the model
(specularity of lightsources can also be set on/off)

    and so on...

    Karl.
