I noticed that I need to 1) install the JDBC driver on that machine,
then copy a .jar file to a /cf location as well?

When you say the JDBC driver performs better, what do you mean?

    Thanks!

The "install" of this driver really involves just putting the JAR file
on your server, then adding the JAR file to CF's classpath so it can be
found. Where you put the JAR file is really up to you, but you do need
to add it to CF's classpath.

Performs better meaning improved speed and stability (in most cases).

Well, its seems to be working, so thank you!! If it seems to work well,
maybe I'll move it to my production servers instead of using the ODBC
    driver.

Fantastic Steve--glad to help. I definitely think you'll be happier
    with the JDBC drivers.
