40,000 images in iPhoto? - Mac Applications & Software

I got an email from Apple today saying the iPod would hold 40,000 images and with firewire I could download them directly into iPhoto (!?) <sarcasm> I guess they never tried. Mine bogs down at 1,000 photos. </sarcasm> -- o ~ _-'\_ ~ Jon Claerbout: jon sep.stanford.edu (*)<(*) ~ http://sep.stanford.edu/sep/jon/...

Wrong software. iView Media Pro <http://www.iview-multimedia.com/> is a
good pro-level image catalogue. There is another pro-level program, but
    I can't remember its name.

    I agree.

    1. Go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
    2. Mention that dBase II could handle 40,000 records on an 8086 DOS
    2.1 box -- with ease.

It's absurd that iPhoto bogs down at 1,000 or even 5,000 photos. The
images are in the darned file systems, which handles >> 100K objects.

Granted, it's amazing that it can scale photos dynamically. But
there's no UI reason that it should be trying to scale an entire photo
    library all at once.

iPhotos problems are some odd mixture of:

    1. incompetence
    2. poor initial design and lack of will to correct it.
    3. a malign strategy of locking users into a dead end application,
then offering them a dual CPU G5 as a solution.
    4. lack of interest

iViewMediaPro 2.x was nice enough, but it lacked a lof of what I liked
about iPhoto. I have not reevaluated iVMP v3.x. It would help if the
vendor devised a migration path for iPhoto users with large image
    collections scattered across multiple Libraries.

iTunes shows Apple can solve this problem -- iTunes masters the domain
    demands that kill iPhoto.

So, go to the above URL and keep complaining. Maybe the iPod photo
    vault sales will pay off.

Or maybe there's a better commercial solution? I'd be interested in

With Tri-Catalog you can also handle quite large previews from at least
a couple hundred CD but I think this is not what you are looking for
