A Beginner's Basic Question for IDCS2 on Mac

I'm REALLY new to InDesign and this may be a very simple issue but,
every time I save a document in InDesign and I open it, I can't make any changes to it. I can't access the text boxes or the illustrator files I've imported. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or how to fix this issue? I just want to make changes to the documents I've already created. Thanks!

Sounds like you were working on a master page.

Yes, I was. Is there any way to make changes to a master page once you've saved it?

Go to the master page and cut everything and paste it onto a live page.
