A CD burner for VirtualPC? - Mac Applications & Software

Once in a while I have a need to burn a CD while in a VirtualPC session. Plain data CDs are just fine. Anyone know of what brand will work? I could buy & try a brand that would let me return it, but I'd rather know beforehand. Thanks....

I think this will depend more on whether VPC allows CD burner
software to work. This is a feature I would not assume exists.

Note, however, that even if you can't burn from within VPC, most CD
burning software (including Roxio's EZ CD Creator) can create a CD
image file, which you can then burn to a disc from MacOS using Disk
    Copy or Toast.

My recommendation would be to get a drive that has good MacOS
support. It would surprise me if VPC would support some
    Mac-compatible drives and not others.

A rivaling product called RealPC would see the Mac's internal cd writer as
a read-only drive, but is able to write to external SCSI drives. (I used
that two years ago to burn SVCDs, before Mac utilities were available.)
Maybe something similar is true for VirtualPC?

I have successfully used a Zip CD 650 USB 4x4x8x CDRW with Virtual PC
(version 4.0 with OS 9) and the bundled PC burning software.

The trick is to boot into Virtual PC and then plug in the USB device
so the PC sees it first (since the Mac and the emulated PC don't share
USB devices other than mice and keyboards).

Because it's a USB connection, and because it's an OS emulation, don't
expect to get anything faster than a 1x burn. I got buffer underruns
at 4x and 2x, but a successful burn at 1x.

This was done on a Digital Audio G4 with 512 MB of RAM.

Thanks. This indicates that it is indeed doable.
