a php map (online game) - PHP Development

Hi guys. I'd like to ask if you know any tutorials or places where one can get some info & help (if there are any online sources) about creating a simple online game with strategic map. Or just tell me if there is no stuff - like mentioned above - online ;) I was looking (actually googling ;) for this but without any effects. Thank you for any help. A couple of ideas could be using HTML tables to make a grid in which you put
icons for what's on the map.

Or use GD to composite images together.

Look at the recent 'PHP and Chess' thread over on comp.lang.php; a
chessboard's effectively a strategic map, so could give you some ideas.

that's the easy and simple (as far as we are talking about pure HTML) :)
but I wish players can update postions of troops (units) via website by
typing e.g. ID number/number/name of hex/ territory/ province

the point is how to join PHP technology with HTML table-map and make icons
moving as players want
that's why I asked about tutorials :)

well, I really wanted. I was searching with google but using "chess"
"chessboard", "PHP and Chess", even "map" gave me nothing
so I would be grateful if u can give me a clue what I should be looking for?

thanks in advance

You are talking about client side technology in that case, comp.lang.java
and comp.lang.flash is that way -->

Both technologies facilitate that sending and fetching of information via
web services so you could write the backend in php.

However what you're asking for is fairly unique, so tutorials are going to
be hard to find.

definately no clients :) not at all
that's why I'm talking about PHP and eg. MySQL

we can see a lot of games based on PHP-MySQL, and mentioned by Andy Hassall
example of Chess is perfect - I mean situation described below:

- couple of players, website (with login option)
players log in game and can see something like that:
http://grinpin01a.fm.interia.pl/1.gif

player can decide where to move his unit(s) e.g. A 1, then clicks "submit
move" and it goes to database, so after submitting the move, icon with "1"
will be displayed in position A 1 and so on.
So all players can see the map and units (and their moves).

of course that's the beginning - there must be some scripts to hold moving
after 1 move until next turn and to "resolve battles" (when two players
choose the same square e.g. Unit "1" would move to C 1,
but for now the target is "the map" :)

well, I think that for clients it could be hard to find tutorials but for
PHP/MySQL maybe not... that's why I'm sending my e-mails here :))

Greetings
