This is not necessarily a general solution for everyone, but it does give a hint as to what is going on. Let me explain how the problem effected me and how I too was able to get around it.

We only had one user with the problem. She had just upgraded from adobe reader 5.x to adobe reader 6.0. We first tried re-installing Adobe 6.0, no dice. We then tried installing adobe reader 5.0 again, no dice. Finally, we uninstalled all adobe products and went through the registry removing any traces that might have been left behind. Then we installed adobe again, same problem. We tried printing multiple documents as multiple users to multiple printers, no dice. This meant it couldn't be document, profile, or printer related.

With all these diagnostics we decided that the problem had to be operating system related. Sometime during the installation of 6.0 the program must either: 1)delete and forget to replace a file that belongs to the OS or 2)corrupt a file that belongs to the OS.

We then saw this solution in the forums. It did not seem to make sense considering that the problem is consistant across all printers and some of our printers already have names that fit suggested scheme (i.e. 'Promotions'). We tried changing both the share name as well as the actual printer name to no avail. As a last resort we removed the printer from the server, deleted the port and then reinstalled it using different names for the printer, share name, and tcp/ip port. This did the trick.

I do not believe that the problem resides with any of these names. I believe the problem resides with the system, but that when all these names are changed and the printer is reinstalled on the system, that whatever was corrupted is re-installed under a different name and new files are copied.

Question was this the adobe pdf printer, or your normal networked printer?
