Academic Version...missing windows?
I have the academic version of adobe 's design collection before cs came out so that would make it version 10. When I use illustrator I am missing windows like the navigator and pathfinder and in the tools the shape tool is missing, and it could be missing more that I am just not noticing yet. I thought they were there when I first installed it but I could be wrong. I have also tried reinstalling but it's still not there. Are these features simply missing from the academic version or is something wrong with the program I have? Help please!

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
This is probably what happened when you installed Illustrator you decided to make an alias to launch it from. Instead of holding down the command and option key you only held the option key. That made a copy AI instead of an alias. The copy is residing outside of the AI folder so links to features are broken.
Even if you reinstalled and did now make a proper alias the preferences are corrupt so they have to be trash first the copy has to be trash and a proper alias has to be made and then everything should be fine.

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
I didn't make an alias, I had made a shortcut on the dock. If I hold down command and the option key it won't let me make a shortcut on the dock. I just dragged the icon from the application folder to the dock and it seemed to be in both places...did i do that wrong? And if so how are you supposed to make shortcuts on the dock?

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
That is the right way to make a short cut just drag to the dock. Did you move the application out of the AI folder?
The other cause of this behavior is if you locked the application.
Or if the AdobeFnt05.lst or 06.lst files are corrupt.
You trash them and the AI preferences.

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
Well I didn't move it from the applications folder, it's still there and still missing the windows. I tried trashing the illustrator folder and reinstalling it but it's doing the same thing.

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
You can delete them all except do not delete the Adobefnt.db file. The Adobefnt.lst files will rebuild themselves.
I don't have OSX yet but in OS9 preferences are under the system folder/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator.

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
Thank you guys sooo much! I deleted all of the AdobeFnt05.lst and 06.lst files and adobe illustrator preference files...opened Illustrator and everything was back to normal!!! Do you know why that would have happened and is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again? Thanks again!

Re: Academic Version...missing windows?
These files can become corrupt from time to time. I guess it just happens.
If somethings not working right in AI, the first thing to do is trash the preferences. It usually fixes alot of problems.

You're welcome but don't do it again! That's a warning!
BTW look at the thread on Lamination I would appreciate in spite of how my response sounds what your experience with aqueous coating has been!
