You can clear the Contribute preferences. Quit Contribute, and then delete the
Contribute3 folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\ and also run the following command " reg
delete "HKCU\Software\Macromedia\Contribute 3" /f " if you are using
Contribute 3. If you are using Contribute 3.11, run " reg delete
"HKCU\Software\Macromedia\Contribute 3.11" /f "

I have recently experienced this same issue.

It seems that changing the ownership of the files to the same as the SFTP user on the server fixed the problem.

hope it helps

ACCESS DENIED
Posted: 01-10-2008, 03:04 PM
I have been publishing pages with no issues up until recently when I
am ready to publish I get the following message:

Access Denied. The file may not exist, or there could be permission
problem.

Any ideas why?

I wiped all my settings and started a fresh so when I connected I had
no unpublished drafts but then again as soon I tried to publish it
came up with the same error.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Jo

Access Denied

User is getting access denied message. The connection to server is successful.
User has chosen to edit webpage. User makes changes t
o webpage. User then clicks the publish button and gets access denied message.
File doesn't exist for does not have permission. I ha
ve tried to have user settings for user as both administrator and publisher of
website. User has file permissions. User can create,
modify, copy, and delete all files in the directory where the document is that
she wants to publish.

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to edit pages on a site I've had for
three years, and I keep getting "Access Denied. The file may not exist, or
there could be a permission problem." This is odd, because I'm the
Administrator. It comes up with that on every page I try to edit. I think I
remember this happening about a year ago, and after a couple of hours, it just
mysteriously went away.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm delighted to report that I found a solution to my problem. First of all,
through Contribute, I clicked View, and had a look at all pages on my site.
One looked like it had a strange extension, different from the usual .htm all
the other pages end with. So that looked suspicious.

I closed Contribute, and I went to the control panel on my website server. I
went into the webshell, and had a look at all pages on my site. The same page
that looked suspicious in Contribute had a .lck extension after the usual .htm
extension. It turns out that I inadvertently locked that page. And not only
did it lock that page, it locked every other page as well.

I deleted that file, went back into Contribute and voila! The problem was
solved and I'm now able to edit all pages again.

I sincerely hope that this fixes it for you too, because this was a royal pain.

Jim
