access with CF
Hi,
I am trying to set up a website for member access and login using MS Access.
This site would allow administrator and some users to logon and update the
attendance sheet of each member from various events. The events and the details
about the member are described in a different table.
Would Access be a good tool to use with cold Fusion MX 7. If not, is My SQL
good to work with Cold Fusion.
Thanks for any help.

more difficult to install from the standpoint of the product itself as
well as the driver on the CF side, but it's not a huge ordeal. If
you're not familiar with databases at all you'll find Access a lot
easier to work with, but MySQL is a much more robust solution than
Access. Access is a file-based database whereas MySQL is a true
database server along the lines of SQL Server, Oracle, etc.

Re: access with CF
Hi,
Thanks very much. I am familiar with Oracle so I guess MySQL should be fine.
But I see on their website that there are many drivers to be installed.I think
I shall go with Access for now then.
Could you guide me to some documents/samples that would illustrate the code
or tags that can be used with MS Access to store , add and retrieve records and
the username and passwords from the web-based form. (client or application
variables)
Thanks

Re: access with CF
Hi,
To agree with Matt, MySQL is in essence a better choice. Access is a much
slower "DB" if you so desire to call Access a database. There are some nuances
with MySQL and depending on the versions of CF and MySQL it may work right out
of the box, it did for me at one point. I prefer a real DB over a flat file
anyday. I deal with 300,000+ records daily and MySQL chunks right along without
a hiccup, an Access DB, I have my doubts about. Like Matt said, you could have
some problems getting it going as I did when upgrading to CFMX7 and MySQL 4.x,
but I got it working just like it should. I would never consider Access,
especially if you have Oracle at your disposal, if not, MySQL would be my
choice. Overall, there is not really any other drivers to install other than
maybe an updated JDBC driver, its not that big of a deal.

Re: access with CF
Hi,
Thanks very much for the information. I shall look up MySQL and go over the installation part.
