Accurate PMS on Epson 1290? Mac OSX.3.3

Hello everyone..
I've been having colour problems with getting accurate PMS colours out
of the Epson 1290 and freehand 11/illustrator v10

Does anyone out there get a relatively accurate output with either
Freehand or illustrator?

If so how have/what have you done to get it to work?...

We're running a G4 1Ghz Dualie, 2GbRam and OSX.3.3

This is really driving me crazy... I've got one idea up my sleeve but
I'll keep it as a last resort.

If anyone can help me out I would extremely grateful.

Maybe using a RIP would give greater accuracy - I have never tried it but I seem to recall some info that boasted greater colour accuracy if their RIP was used. Maybe the Birmy one? Perhaps someone who uses this combination will be able to advise further.

Hey Ant,
Thanks for responding... I've fixed my "conumdrum"....

I made a PMS chart and used Colorsync to match the screen and the
output. All we do now is match the PMS swatch book to the printed chart
I made, relable the colour if necessary so what we print is pretty close
to the final printed PMS.
