Default Acro Pro Update Error: "An invalid application was selected."

    All,

I've downloaded the V7.0.5 updater for Acro Professional and when I run it, and point it at my version of Acro Pro (v7.0.3), it says "An invalid application was selected."

    What gives? Any ideas?

Are you sure its 7.03 you already have?

The updates are very, very strict. Unlike Apple that rolls out an updater that will up date and chang component all the way back. Say you had OSX.4 and download the 4.7 cobo updater. it would update x.4 all the way up to x.4.7.

In Adobe you have download and run update from 7.0 to 7.01 then next updater would be to update to 7.0. and if you tried to update from 7.0 to 7.2 it would fail in the manner you describe.

The exception is from 7.03 to 7.05 because 7.05 is a completely new program.

try downloading the 7.02 updater and running that. once you find the correct one(s) run them in order.

I'm fairly sure I have 7.0.3 because when I do a Get Info on the application, it says Adobe Acrobat 7.0.3.

I tried running the 7.0.2 updatere and it reported: "The selected application's version is outside the range that can be updated with this installer."

When you say 7.0.5 is a completely new program, what do you mean? Do you mean you have to buy a new version? Shouldn't I be able to run the program in "Ac705PrP_ddnsfsip.dmg" and update from 7.0.3 to 7.0.5?

    Something's not working right here.

No. Its package as an updater. But instead downloads and installs a acompletely new program with new folder and everything. No you don't have to pay to update to it. but it such a change they decided to start from scratch.

    OK. Thanks.

In the meantime, how do you suppose I can update my software.
Can you see anything obvious here?

Do Adobe support staff read these forums?
Do I have to pay Adobe to have this problem fixed?

This is frustrating not to have the latest software...

Yes Adobe support staff do "lurk" here on occasion and once in a blu moon they may post.

its possible that you may have delete acrobat and all its components (not the pdf's you have created) from you computer and start from scratch. you'll have download and install 0.1, 0.2, o.3 updates one right after the other.

the easiest way is open acrobat go to help menu > look for updates

when it goes to Aobe and finds the updates start at the oldest up date and intiate the update then imediately quit acrobat when it starts the download.

repeat with next oldest do the same. work your way untill your updated.
after 7.0.5 there is 7.0.7 and 7.0.8 I can't recall if there is a 7.0.6 or not. if so use it before the last 2.

people get into trouble by not applying updates. Then it ends up a pain to catch up.

    Interesting...

I chose "Check for updates now..." from the Help menu and it says: "No updates are available at this time."

Do GETINFO on the Acrobat Application.

If your up to date you should have 7.0.8. If so there is no reason to Run an updater - yet.

    Ac705PrP_ddnsfsip.dmg

Are you running the dutch, danish, norweigan, spanish, french, swedish, italian or portugese version? Because that's what this particular updater that you downloaded is for.
