I was told today by Adobe support on the phone, that Acrobat 5.0 won't
"work" with XP.

Searching this forum seems to indicate otherwise.

Does Acrobat 5.0 work nice with XP professional?

Reason for call:

I have been in the process of finally changing over my work computer
from 98 to XP. Wanted to migrate my copy of Acrobat 5.0 to the xp
computer.

Didnt have the serial number that it liked. My 5.0 serial number is
actually the Acrobat 3.0 serial number since the 5.0 is an upgrade.
Accepted the 3.0 disk without any interrupt though.

Called support at 800.833.6687, explained my problem and when I said
"I am tryingt to re-install it on XP .."
he interrupted with "Cant do it. Have to upgrade to 6 to run on XP"

so ...

I have purchased one full version, and one upgrade. Now I am done.
5.0 wont install, but the 6.0 upgrade wont take the original serial
number.

Sweet

When I bought this copy of 5.0, 6.0 was just coming out. But Adobe
wouldnt allow an upgrade price from version 3 to 6. So I bought the 5
upgrade.
Looks like I got f****ed.
The upgrade path is definitely NOT the path to follow with Adobe. Buy
the full version, then start socking money away to buy the full again,
skipping a version.

If xp incompatibility is the case, I will stick with 98 on one of my
other computers and use it just for the publishing. Works great on 98.

I just use it to offer pdf versions of the information on my web
sites.
Maybe by the time 7.0 or 8.0 comes out, I can justify the expense to
buy the full product. Ought to be up to half a bill by then.
