Default Acrobat 5 on Mac G4 Need help Tech Manuals to CD

    Hi all,

    Acrobat 5, Mac G4, Mac OS 9.2.2
    Built in Memory: 640 MB
Vertual Memory: 641 used on HD
    Largest Unused Block: 582 MB,
    Acrobat 5.0: 17.4 MB
    Mac OS: 47.7 MB

My task is to create CD's of my Company's Tech Manuals, Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog. The manuals are word search able, have bookmarks for each Chapter and each sub-section, all files are pdf's.

I have inherited this software and know barely enough to do the job. My concern is that this is too labor intensive, for each revision I re-write the bookmarks and re-associate each pdf file (over 1K pdf files for the Illustrated Parts Catalog and 500+ pdf files for the Maintenance Manuals.

One of the problems was that the pdf files are renamed for each revision (to keep track of what is revised) and when the index is purged and rebuilt , each file has to be re-associated with the bookmark. I have tried to leave the file names the same (without reference to revision level) thinking that this would allow the program to associate each pdf file automatically when the index is purged/rebuilt. This helped only slightly, but still need to re write the bookmarks.

Another is that I can not or don't know how to reset/change the defaults. For each revised page, I need to set the "Document Properties, Open Options" to select "Bookmarks and Page", "Magnification: Fit in Window" and "Page Layout: Single Page". If I could change the default , this alone would save me a lot of repetitive steps.

I have used "Acrobat Help" but can not find a way to change/reset the defaults.

Is there a better program/upgrade to/than Acrobat 5.0, that will accomplish my task, I am all ears/eyes.

What do I need to do/use to create CD's from existing pdf files of our Tech Manuals? All the manuals are/were written in Adobe PageMaker for the hard copies and each file has been converted to pdf for the CD's.

I thank you in advance for any help or ideas,

Mac can batch process the opening settings.

For bookmarks, are you not able to do the bookmarks during the original generation of the PDF?
