Acrobat 6.0 Install Damaged MS Office 2000 - Adobe Acrobat Windows

I am running Windows 2000 on a Gateway Pentium 4 with 524 Mb RAM. I installed Acrobat 6.0 today after having used 4.0 for several years. The immediate effect was to "reset" Microsoft Office. It wiped out my e-mail account (had to recreate). It reinstalled Office - not bad in itself. However, EVERYTHING I have worked with today has slowed to a crawl: Word, Excel, Outlook. Everything is working so badly I will have to uninstall 6.0 and go back to 4.0 (hoping to eliminate the problem) if I cannot get a fix.

Did you turn off everything (including the virus scan) during the install? It sounds like something along this line that occurred. Be sure to give more info in terms of the OS, and such next time.

I downloaded Adobe 6.0 to the tune of $299. Now my Dell laptop running XP and MS Office Pro is at a crawl. I was given a serious conflict error message concerning Acrobat and Outlook. I rebooted several times to no avail. I tried to uninstall, and after 20 minutes, got an error message and was unable to continue. I tried a repair (thru the Adobe wizard) and was again, after 20 minutes, hit with an error. The system then spent 10 minutes trying to get back to where it was. What am I left with? A dog-slow computer that is basically useless, an Adobe program that no longer loads or works and is unable to be uninstalled or repaired, a $299 CC bill and no freakin' idea what to do except take it to the shop for a costly repair. Any ideas? I sent a bug report to Adobe, only to find out that they don't reply to those (?). I can't even find a link to send an email without subscribing and paying more to have them tell me what? My guess is that this is beyond telephone support; I'm not a computer wizard; I know how to run programs that work as they should. Was it too much to expect? Sorry, but I'm ed at the moment.
