    Default Acrobat 6.0 Professional and Save As Error (43)

    I am unable to save a form (through the optimizer, states "error encountered while saving the optimized file" or save as to another location. The error message "the document could not be saved there was a problem reading this document (43)").

    Are you trying to save the PDF to a network location? If so then save it locally and then transfer it to your network drive.

    If this is not the case then how was the PDF created?

    I was able to copy the file and paste it into the network folder. However, I am still not able to optimize from the network location. I am using Acrobat 6.0 and the users have Approval 5.0. I tested the form (in Approval) and all the functions work, excpet "save as" - a required function. Any ideas? I see there's a patch (Approval 5.0.5). Would that make the difference?

    Working over a network like this cannot guarantee a steady data-stream and so throws up these kinds of errors. It is safer to take a copy of the PDF and work on it locally and then replace it.

    You are correct that you have to use PDF Optimizer (or Reduce File Size) to make it 5-compatible. 5.0.5 will not change this fact.

    All our forms are on the network. I will have to review how we update and store the forms. THANKS for all your assistance Jonathan H - you saved me a few gray hairs.
