Acrobat 6 Integration with InDesign CS1 - workflow info?

I have been trying to Google info on this, but either my Google skills are weak or this info is so basic, that it just isn't out there. I would really appreciate any answers, tips or URLs to get me on my happy way.

So far, we have only been using Acrobat to send proofs and artwork (mostly from Illustrator and some basic InDesign files) I know we have barely tapped in to 5% of the potential of Acrobat. On odd occassion, we have used Actobat to mark changes and comments.

I am currently working on 36-page InDesign document and would like to use Acrobat during the entire process from proofing to press. I plan to export as PDF/x1 from InDesign and email from Acrobat for commenting. This exported PDF will be the first look my client has had to the layout and may request layout changes still.

My questions:

Since the layout has not been approved, is sending as PDF premature or does it matter?

In the event that changes are required (either layout or type) and they send back a marked-up PDF with comments and notes - do I change in the InDesign document and resend a new PDF or am I supposed to edit the PDF that was sent back with the comments? This is part I don't get, I know I can collect JDF comments from everyone who were sent the PDF, but I don't understand how it works from here. If I make edits to the IND file and export a new PDF - do I import the JDF into that PDF now? or?.....

I'm sure it's simple - help an old-skool designer, please?
