Default Acrobat 7.0.1 crashes when "Reducing File Size"

Hey, y'all...I've got a whole buncha archived files here that are saved in Acrobat 6 & 7 format. Some of our users are still on OS 9 and cannot open the files since they're stuck using Acrobat Reader 5.

I've been trying to use the "Reduce File Size" feature to save the files down to Acrobat 5 compatibility, but it crashes during "Processing Images."

I've installed the latest patches and repaired my permissions. Any ideas or other suggestions on what to do? I'm working on a dual 1.8 GHz G5 with 2 GB of RAM running 10.3.9.

    Thanks,
    Adam

You still may have a problem but what you need to do is loacet and use PDF Optimizer.

you can reduce the size of Graphics. And you change the compatibility as well.

For normal printing of inhouse document on a Postscript printer anything more than 600DPi is a waste of Bandwidth. 300dpi should be fine for B&W 600dpi for color.

And if they are supposed to be published on the internet 150dpi is more than adaquate for super looking Graphics. For adaquate Web veiwing 72 dpi is fine.

If however; the PDF's will be used for Offset printing don't compress anything else will look fuzzy.

Hmm. I tried using Tools > Print Production > PDF Optimizer but it crashed at the same point. I tried it on a different machine this time, just to make sure. (eMac 1.25 GHz, 1 GB of RAM).

The PDFs in question were originally newspaper pages built with InDesign CS. They were saved as individual X-1/a PDFs (one page per PDF as per our printer's requirements). Later, for archiving, I combined the individual PDFs into single files for each edition with Acrobat 6 and, later, Acrobat 7.

Well, now I have some people in our Advertising department who want to view the archive I made but can't open the "new" PDFs, even though they're really X-1/a's deep down inside...

    Thanks,

I am having the same issue with Acrobat quit unexpectedly. This happens when I "save as..." or "pdf optimizer" to this file customer gave me. I tried several macs without luck. Acrobat just quits.
