acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
I've installed Acrobat 7.0 (standard) three times on my Mac (OSX 10.42) When I use Quark in Classic. it tells me "Acrobat printer is not installed, a generic printer will be used instead." And, if I open Distiller in X and drag a file onto it, it just gives me a yellow triangle and sits there. I can add Acrobat PDF to the X printer utility, but not Distiller. Am I not getting something? I've installed this program by clicking on the installation button. It can't be this difficult.
Thanksfor your help.

Re: acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
You cannot integrate Classic and Mac OS X programs. So ancient
versions of XPress cannot print directly to modern versions of
Acrobat.
It sounds as if everything is working normally.
You need to print to a PostScript file from XPress, then distill that
manually in Mac OS X.

Re: acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
Dana,
If you have Acrobat 5, you can install that under classic and all
should still work. In the Mac World, the different versions of Acrobat
don't really conflict. I have 5, 6, and 7 all functioning on my Mac. I
use 5 under Classic.

Re: acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
Thanks to both of you. Your answers worked. I have one more question if you don't mind.
In Acrobat 7.0 PRO it has a handy tool bar for print production. This has tools for adding
crop lmarks and color bars. However, I have Acrobat 7.0 Standard. Is there a way to
add crop marks and color bars in this version?
Thanks,
Dana

Re: acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
No. Pre-press users would mostly want Acrobat Professional.

Re: acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
Aandi - that answer is not quite right. I don't own a printing press and don't the differences RGB, CMYK, XYZ or whatever; but there are features such as "creation of and design of Forms that I need and Standard doesn't do that. There are also other features to which are exclusively in Pro that are not in Standard. another example "Typewriter" and the ability to turn the Typewriter feature on so that it can be used in Reader.
Actually anybody that wasn't doing other than make a basic Pdf (you can do that in Mac OSX) would want Pro. Standard is like your first grade Primmer.
In 8 since there will be no "Standard" version for Mac only "Pro" I wonder if they will go back to the setup like in Acrobat 5 where if you want the print press stuff you pay for the print press add in feature only. and the rest of it is a full fledged Acrobat with all the bells and whistles except PrintPress.
WE keep having this situation where, people write in complaining I used to be able to do such and such, and now That I have 6 or 7 I can't do it anymore. Turns out why they can't do this or that is they didn't know in order to get "this or that" feature they need pro and they bought Standard.

Re: acrobat 7.0 and distiller don't work
I think we're agreeing. I wasn't saying that ONLY pre-press users
would want Pro; only that if you ARE a pre-press user then you will...
