Hi & thanks for the response/query. I'm just now replying Monday morning back at work.

Yes, our version is 7.0.1. Since we're on new Mac minis running OS 10.3.7, (mine has 1GB DDR SDRAM), I'm sure memory is sufficient, although I can't find where/how to confirm.

As to the experience of what happens:

    A) When it works:

1)Click on the crop tool. Two possibilities occur:
    a) Target cursor appears over pdf.
    b) CROP PAGES window appears. If this, then clicking either "Cancel" OR "OK" closes the CROP PAGES window. Then target cursor appears over pdf.

    2) Then, Click & drag box to shape. Double click inside box. CROP PAGES window appears with data. Click "OK." Done. Save cropped version.

    B) When it doesn't work:

    1) Click on crop tool.
    2) CROP PAGES window appears.
    3) Clicking either "Cancel" or "OK" closes the CROP PAGES window.
    4) No target cursor over pdf. Back to square one with the pdf just sitting there as originally opened.
    5) Repeat this loop endlessly.
    6) Only solution so far is to repeatedly close & reboot Acrobat until we get lucky and the crop tool functions again.

Hope this further explanation helps isolate the cause.

Thanks again for your interest & for any help. -Ken

    Ken,

Go to View > Toolbars > Advanced Editing. Select the Crop tool be single-clicking on the Crop tool button. This will cause the crop cursor, which looks like a crosshair with a dot in the center, to be displayed. Double clicking on the Crop tool button causes the Crop dialog to appear. Also, Selecting the Crop tool by going to Tools > Advanced Editing > Crop Tool also causes the Crop dialog to appear. The only way I can see to get the Crop tool cursor to appear is the single-click method I mentioned.

BTW - You can always go directly to the Crop dialog. Enter the desired data in the Top, Bottom, Left and Right fields. You will notice a faint guide line is drawn to the appropriate position on the page.

    Hope this is helpful.

Thanks. We know about all the ways to access the crop tool. But your comment about single-clicking vs. double-clicking adds some detail.

Still, our basic problem has been that the crosshair with dot (I called it target cursor) simply never shows up, no matter what.

However, testing today, it seems to be working pretty consistently. (That's the tricky part about intermittent problems.) So, no problem at least for now. I just don't know. Thanks for the helpful comments.
