Default Acrobat 7 Pro does not create PDF's from it'sdefault settings since I upgraded to 10.3.9

    Hi Can anyone help?

I have just migrated to 10.3 and upgraded my machine to 10.3.9. I have Acrobat 7.0 Pro and when I go to print and use the PDF defualt driver and then select a dafualt setting in the set up to make the PDF, it sends the file to print and then the printer stops half way through and doesn't create a PDF. I have tried this through many different programmes the main ones Quark and Word.
If I change the defualt setting I can create a PDF. But since updating to 10.3.9 I have been having problems using all the defualt settings for creating small and large PDF's, this is essential when sending low res PDF's to clients which I am unable to do since upgrading??

Please explain more about your steps. Which options, if any, do you select in the "output options" dialogs? What do you mean by "stops half way through"? Does the machine lock up? Do you get any error? And by "default settings" do you mean "any setting supplied by Acrobat" versus a settings file you've created yourself?

    Hi Tim,

Out put options on printer set up (of the acrobat 7.0 PDF printer driver) is Printer features gives me the resolution which i decrease and the PDF Options is where I can select defualt PDF settings which come with Acrobat 7.0.

When I go to print through the PDF printer driver the printer setup box comes up and the job states it's 'printing' but then the job is just 'stops'. I start print jobs again and the same thing happens, the printer does not finish the job.

The defualt settings I am on about are supplied with distiller i.e. there is a press quality one a Print setting and a Smallest file size setting which I am unable to use.
If I create my own settings to print through with the PDF printer driver it does the same thing and the printer set up just stops the job.

I hope these help, thanks for helping out.

    Hi John,

Have the same problem here running 10.3.9 and Acrobat 6.0. The jobs would just stop in the "adobe pdf" printer for no reason. After a little digging I also realized that Distiller wouldn't start at all (unexpectedly quit).

The sorta good news is that I found everything works just fine when I login as "administrator" or the new account I created on that computer. The thing is this is more or less a workaround and not a real fix. For now I am curious whether this works for you as well.

Also I'm assuming permission fix = running disk utility. I'm not familiar with cron/unix commands but Tim maybe referring to running fsck.

    Hideyuki,

Google on MacJanitor, it will run the unix cron jobs for you. They are
basicly daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping chores, that are normally
run around 3AM. So if you leave your computer on every night, then you
need not run these jobs manually.
