Acrobat 8.0 Inserting Sound and Movies, Problem With
Hello,
I have read the manual, help files and formatted movies and sound to Quicktime formats but there is still no way that I can insert movie and sound files into pdf files.
I just get a message telling me that these are not Quicktime formats (when we know that they are). I am using QuickTime 7.1.3, Acrobat 8.0 on Mac OS 10.4.8.
I convert movies to .mov and .AVI format and sound files to .wav
What am I missing, please? Has anyone else had a problem with this or is it just my set up?
Any help with this greatly appreciated.

Re: Acrobat 8.0 Inserting Sound and Movies, Problem With
Hi,
I click on the movie or sound icon in the toolbar (or from the Tools Menu>Advanced Editing) and a dialog box opens. I select the browse function and select the media file.
Every time I do this I get the same message:
'The type of file you have selected is not supported. Please select another file'
All the files I am selecting are QuickTime files, so I don't understand why I can't insert them.
Help!

How are you converting these files to mov and wav files. Have you
tried opening these files in Quicktime and resaving them? Can you post
some troublesome files for us to look at.

Re: Acrobat 8.0 Inserting Sound and Movies, Problem With
Hello, I cannot send any media files as I only have a dial up connection.
I booted from my Mac disk and found a header problem on my hard drive. fixed that. I also reinstalled Acrobat 8 just for a sanity check (ahem, right)
Now I find that I can insert movies and sound if I use the Acrobat 6 and later in the dialog box that opens. Very good, very pleased about that.
I cannot insert any type of media, no sound or movies, in any format, if I select the Acrobat 5 and earlier option. All of my media files are dimmed and therefore unselectable. This includes all files with these suffix (which are the only ones I use):
..mov, .m4v, .mp3, .wav, .aif, .aiff
This is a pain because it means that I cannot use this function to create files for people using an earlier version of Acrobat.
Are there known media suffixes that will attach to a file using the Acrobat 5 or earlier selection?

Re: Acrobat 8.0 Inserting Sound and Movies, Problem With
The reason for this is simple - Acrobat 5 didn't support those formats! Acrobat 5 only supported QuickTime, and older versions thereof.
In order to handle all of your media formats, you MUST use Acrobat 6 (or later) compatibility.

Re: Acrobat 8.0 Inserting Sound and Movies, Problem With
That may be true but the version of QT that works with OS9 handles all thoses types except possibly the m4V (video).
And if it's using QT from OSX, QT handles all thoses types. and more.

Re: Acrobat 8.0 Inserting Sound and Movies, Problem With
That would be true, IF we only played the formats - and didn't actually "connect them" to the source PDF.
One of the reasons for the media changes in Acrobat 6/PDF 1.5 is that we also created a "bridge" between the JavaScript language of PDF with the languages/controls of each media player. This enables the creation of VERY media rich PDF documents feature bi-directional communication between the container/PDF and the contents (Media).
