Acrobat 8.0 Professional crashes after install on iMac

I followed the directions to disable the updater plug in and all seems to be well. I was able to register the product and open an existng PDF file without a crash. Thanks for the workaround.

Hi Marti.

Glad the workaround worked for you too. You might want to contact Paul Herrin too, just to let him know you've used the workaround and it worked for you. I don't know if they need more crash reports to figure out a permanent solution or not, but if they do, you could send them one too.

Just don't forget to check for 8 updates to make sure you get the permanent fix when it comes out. It sounds like your computer was doing exactly what mine did. I never got as far as registering either. I got to the start screen in Acrobat, with all the "what's new info" and it crashed before I could even finish reading that. And in Safari, it crashed about five seconds after I opened a file.

But we're all up and running, and it is a neat program!

This solved my crashing problems with Acrobat Professional 8 and Reader 8 as well.

Deselecting the updater has NOT helped my similar issue...any ideas? (Have posted separately).

Did you uninstall all the files from any previous versions before you installed 8? That may or may not have anything to do with it. I did uninstall everything first, mainly because I was following a lot of the other suggestions I found. When I reinstalled 8 that last time, everything else was already uninstalled.

What operating system do you have?

I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro (Acrobat 8 Pro and Reader)! It seems to be a „Intel Mac bug". On PPC machines work both applications wo. trouble.
