Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch due to"required component was not found"
Twice in the past couple of weeks, after working without trouble for days or weeks, Acrobat 8 will suddenly fail to lunch and display the following message:
Adobe Acrobat could not install correctly.
A required component was not found. Please restore the
Adobe Acrobat folder from your original CD.
Needless to say, this is a royal pain to have to do over and over again. Why might this be happening and is there a way to get it to launch again without having to run to my office to get the darn CD. The first time, I deleted plist and preference files of all sorts and it didn't fix. I eventually had to reinstall from the CD. Since I am not at the office, I am hoping that someone has a solution for me.
Thank you.

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
I posted a message on this very subject yesterday. EXACTLY the same problem with Acrobat 7; well at least I now know it hasn't been fixed in version 8.
It's got to be a bug of some kind, perhaps related to the dreaded activation?
Would like to hear something from Adobe on this, since it's obviously not that rare a problem...

For the second time in about 3 months, my copy of Acrobat 7.0 Professional refuses to launch. The warning is: A required component was not found. Please restore Acrobat from your original CD.
The first time it happened, that's what I did and it fixed the problem. Now a couple months later it's telling me the same thing. What the hell is going on? I haven't removed anything related to apps. Running the latest OSX on a iMac G5.

Activation doesn't occur on the Mac

Well, that eliminates that. What else would cause components of an app to go missing?

Don't know but have you tried "Detect and Repair" to fix it?

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
How do I "Detect and Repair" if the app won't launch? Actually, even when I launch Acrobat (I have since reinstalled from the optical media), all I find is "Repair Acrobat Installation" under the Help menu. In any event, I can't access any type of repair in Acrobat if it won't launch.

Gary

You can access it from Add/Remove Programs.

Sounds like Windows to me. I think Mark forgot he's in the Mac forum.
What you could do it use the Acrobat Uninstaller in your Acrobat application folder, then install again.

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
OK, this is getting really frustrating now. The first time this happened, I reinstalled Acrobat (no need to uninstall) and it was a pain, but it worked. This time it won't let me reinstall even after I uninstall Acrobat. It lets me go through all the steps including entering the serial number (which I have now done 3 times!), but all the install options are grayed out. I have restarted, run disk utilities, etc. Same thing all three times. It tells me to "Please restore the
Adobe Acrobat folder from your original CD" and it won't let me. I guess my next step is to uninstall the entire suite and spend a couple hours reinstalling and upgrading everything!!? WTF?

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
Your situation sounds even worse than I have yet to encounter. I use a MacBook Pro exclusively so this major bug means that I have to carry the darn CD with me everywhere in case Acrobat up and decides it doesn't want to work any more. What a pain in the rear. I hope Adobe addresses this soon.
All the best,

No, you could keep a copy of the CD on your hard disk, and use that to
copy back to the Applications folder if you ever need to.

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
I lucked out. I had a copy of Acrobat Pro cloned onto another partition and when I copied it over to my applications folder it worked! I noticed something very interesting concerning the file sizes between the working and non-working versions. Both are version 7.0.8, but in the non-working version the Acrobat app is 375.7 Mb, the working version is 380 Mb. Non-working Distiller is 84.6 Mb, working version is 86.8. I suspect somehow updating the program caused this, since it was working fine originally. I hope this information helps someone. I just saved myself hours of reinstall work.

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
Anthony,
Depending upon the size of your partition, the amount of space
reported to be used by a file can change, since the minimum sector
size can be different. However, the reported size of the file in bytes
should be the same independent of the partition size.

Re: Acrobat 8 has twice failed to launch dueto "required component was not found"
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem, only that I receive this error message at every attempt to launch Acrobat Pro 7.0.9.
Workaround: Launch Adobe Reader 7.0.9, quit it and then launch Acrobat Pro.
Very annoying!!!
