Acrobat 8 Pro + LaserJet 2605 = all pageswith solid red background

Default Acrobat 8 Pro + LaserJet 2605 = all pageswith solid red background

I just bought a new LaserJet 2605dn and everything *except* Acrobat 8 prints perfectly. Acrobat 8 prints every page of every PDF with a solid red background for the printed area. I've tested the same PDF in Preview and Reader 7.0.8, and only Acrobat 8 Professional causes this to happen.

Has anyone else (like Adobe) noticed similar problems?

I'm having the same issue with my 2605dn and printing pdfs with large red boxes covering most of the page. Acrobat 7 prints fine, but not v.8. Has anyone been able to resolve this printing issue?

Reader 8 also has the same problem. Printing from Preview (or any other application for that matter) does not exhibit the same red backgrounds.

    David or Connie,

What is your printer’s firmware version? You can find this on Self Test/Configuration Page which can be printed from the printer's Reports menu.

Did you download the latest printer driver from HP or are you using the one provided on the software CD?

    Firmware datecode: 20060510

The print drivers are the latest from HP's site as of the end of December 2006.

It occurred with all PDFs that I tested. As you can understand I was reluctant to waste many pages of solid red ink, but I believe I tested at least three completely different documents, including comparing printing from Safari and printing the same Web page to PDF and then out to the printer via Acrobat.

I tested on both Intel and PowerPC Macs, on Mac OS X 10.4.8.

I observe the identical same problem with the latest HP FW and drivers as of January 07 with Acrobat Professional 8 on MacOS 10.4.8 with my HP 2605dn.

I posted similar comments elsewhere on the Acrobat forum.

I've had the same problem with A8 and a HP2605dn and HP2840. The red printing occurs always with A8. Both printers have freshly installed newest drivers and firmware from HP. Documents print fine using Preview or A6 - prints red only with A8. All other apps are printing ok. Also, duplex documents from A8 print the last page red and REVERSED (mirror image).

I'm running OS10.4.8 with the same results using a G5 and a new MacBook Pro.

I have spoken with HP support via email and phone and they became aware of this due to my call, but are not sure of the cause. I pointed them to this forum to read the posts here. It sounds to me like a software issue - either A8 has a bug or the HP drivers have some issue with A8. I haven't heard anything back from HP since their phone call Jan. 4th.

Does Adobe have any ideas yet?

This works. Click on the print icon. Click on "advanced". Select "output". Check the box "print as image". I suggest to leave it at 300 dpi, otherwise it might take a long time. It will print properly. You can also save it as a named custom set to make this persistent. For now this is an acceptable workaround. Other settings such as changing to postscript level 2 or setting the color management to "same as source" will not help. Please note I have submitted this problem to HP as case 3217438001, but after it was sent to hp mac support there has been no further response.

Cool Re: Acrobat 8 Pro + LaserJet 2605 = all pageswith solid red background

For those looking for current info on a solution...I am using Windows 7, Adobe Acrobat 8, and an HP Color Laserjet 2605dtn. Here is what worked for me...

Choose a different color profile in Advanced Print Setup

1.Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.
2.For Color Profile, choose U.S. Sheetfed Uncoated v2 from the drop down list.
3.Click OK to close the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, and then click OK again to print
