Acrobat 8 Professional very slow

Opening a PDF takes a couple minutes. Doing anything once the document is open takes several seconds for it to respond.
Luckily, I left Acrobat 7 Pro on the machine, and if I open the same PDF, it works fine.
Not sure if this is related, but, if Acrobat is not launch and I double click on a PDF, it will not open. Either Acrobat needs to be open first, or I must choose File->Open.
Have uninstalled/reinstalled CS, and rebuilt the "Launch Services" database.
Any other suggestions or explanations?
