Acrobat 8 Universal?
There's some confusion about the new Acrobat 8 on some of the Mac forums. The system requirements list "G3, G4 or Intel processors", but no mention as to whether Acrobat 8 is a Universal app or will run under Rosetta on the Intel Macs.
Can someone clarify this? Thanks muchly...

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
it's a "universal binary" The installer includes 2 binaries, one for PPC, the other for Intel. It will know what processor you are using.

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
That's great! I made the mistake of purchasing Acrobat Standard on August 24 to support a deadline for my MacBook, which is an Intel machine. The software actually did what I needed, but with numerous quirks that I ruefully realize is because Intel wasn't a supported platform at the time.
I have a followup question: Am I now on the hook for the full $99 upgrade price even though I bought the product less than a month ago? I have a feeling the answer is "yes," but it's worth $100 to ask 8^(

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
There is no Standard version for the Mac with Arcobat 8.0. Contact Adobe and ask them what price will be for an upgrade to Acrobat Pro 8.0.

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
The Mac upgrade from standard or pro is $159
You're eligible for a free upgrade if you purchase anytime between announce and ship. Sounds like you kay not qualify for this, but it's always best to call customer service to be sure.

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
Her date appears to be less than a month from announce time. I would think she is entitled to a free upgrade but I would run this by Customer Support or sales support.
Adobe would PO a lot of folks if they bought less than 30 days before announced date, and had to pay again. :-(

happens all the time. You have to have a cutoff date somewhere, and no matter where it falls, the person who is at date +1 will be po'd

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
That's true but should be software, and industry wide; if you buy something within 31 days of announcement of a new product it should be a free upgrade.

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
what about 32 days? it's just one more day thatn the actual 31 day cutoff.. plus, it's an even number.

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
32 days is fine with me. I just chose 31 because its the legth of the majority of the months in a year.
"thirty days, hath September, April, June, and November;
All the rest have thirty one, excpet Feburary that hath 28 and sometimes 29."
:-)
If you like even numbers make it 60 days or 90 days.
The main thing is not to penalize people that bought software in good faith, and then, having to fork over another ton of money in a few days; simply because they needed the latest at the time, that turned out not to be. :-(

The way I see it is they had 18+ months to upgrade and they chose not to. While there is no exact schedule for updating Adobe applications, you can pretty much count on it being around that 18 month period.
At that point, I would either wait to upgrade or I'd just be one of those people that are always a version behind.

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
How do you account for people that have never had the product before and don't know the 18 Month schedule.
You assume everyone should know the schedule.I suspect only a few of those that have the latest, even knows about the internal 18 month schedule. :-(

Re: Acrobat 8 Universal?
In the end, Adobe is giving me the upgrade to Acrobat 8 Professional, which will run on my Mac, when it comes out, for the cost of shipping the CD. I am happy!
