Default Acrobat and Reader both Crash Under Similar Conditions

    Hi,

I have several users experiencing similar problems.

Two users receive the exact same error message when attempting to open a PDF from a link in a web page with IE6. This same PDF saved to their hard drive opens without issue. Error message:
Acrobat caused and invalid page fault in module Acrobat.exe at 018f:005210b3.
Both users are using Arobat 4 on Win 98 with IE 6.

Another user receives an error attempting to open a PDF from a link in a web page with IE6. The same PDF saved to the hard drive opens without issue. Error message:
Acrord32 caused an illegal operation in module Acrord32.exe at 017f:0054a371.
User has Acrobat Reader 4.0 on Win 98 with IE 6.

All users have exact same version/build of IE 6.
    6.0.2800.1106

Any help would be appreciated. I have searched on this forum and Planet PDF's forum with not much help.

    Thanks in advance.

Default Re: Acrobat and Reader both Crash Under Similar Conditions

After two days of research, I have found a soultion which seems to have corrected this problem.

I tried the suggestion in the FAQ topic but it didn't help the problem.

The problem lies within IE 6 trying to open a PDF file and display it within the browser window. There is an option inside both Acrobat 4 and 5 to prevent this action.

    In Acrobat 4:
On the File menu select Preferences.
    Select General.
Uncheck the 'Web Browser Integration' check box.

    In Acrobat 5:
On the Edit menu select Preferences.
    Select Options.
Uncheck the 'Display PDF in Browser' check box.

Both of these options tell IE to open all PDF files within either Acrobat or Reader. After clicking the link on a web page, the open/save window displays. Click Open. After the file completes the download, Acrobat or the Reader open and display the page.

I have tested this on three different Windows 98 systems with complete success.

I hope this helps some other people who are having the same problems we were.

    Regards,
    Gilley
