Inez,
Not using Acrobat 4. BTW, PDF files have no native resolution. Each of the
graphic within a file can have their own resolution.

Re: Acrobat/Distiller 4.05, Mac OS 9.2.2
I can't do anything about upgrading or I would have long ago.
Yes, but Distiller does have File Option resolution settings and I wanted to
match a previously created file since I knew the client was pleased with it.
I've been working in unfamiliar territory sending files to a client for
lowend, office-type color laser output; 600dpi, native sRGB. I have only
sent process or separated PDFs to commercial printers. It makes me insecure,
along with ancient equipment and apps. It's done though, I hope.
Thanks anyway,

Re: Acrobat/Distiller 4.05, Mac OS 9.2.2
Inez,
Distiller allows you to set maximum resolutions, not minimum resolutions.
Additionally, the methods used to set the maximum resolution can drastically
change your image. If possible it is best to create your images at the
resolution desired or change them in a program like photoshop where you can
change each graphic separately.

Re: Acrobat/Distiller 4.05, Mac OS 9.2.2
My raster images were all edited and saved from Photoshop at the appropriate
resolution (with the exception of vector/EPS), and I'm not referring to the
image/compression settings in the Distiller joboptions. I guess I'm
confused, or confusing my question. I was concerned with the File Options
under the General tab in joboptions. Is that particular resolution/dpi
setting completely meaningless? At any rate, I set it at 600dpi, the print
resolution of the printer in question. According to my client it's printing
fine.

Re: Acrobat/Distiller 4.05, Mac OS 9.2.2
Inez,
The resolution you are speaking about more or less determines among
other things how gradients are created. According to the version 6 help
file it determines the number of steps used to create gradients and
blends. They recommend leaving the default setting (600 dpi) unless you
have the need to match the settings of a particular printer.
