Acrobat PDFs not readable in Mac Preview
Sorry if this has already been addressed - I could not find it.
I have a few PDFs that work fine when used with Acrobat. However most all the text does not appear when the same PDF is viewed with Apple's Preview.
I realize this is not the Apple support forum but I was wondering if anyone knew what I need to do. Any setting I can make in Acrobat to re-export them?
So far I have simply tried "Reduce File Size". That did not help.
Thanks

Re: Acrobat PDFs not readable in Mac Preview
Hi bmclaughlin
Preview is not capable of doing font substitution, if fonts are not embedded. Are all fonts embedded in your PDF?
Preview only shows the correct font, if the missing font of the PDF is installed on your system.

Re: Acrobat PDFs not readable in Mac Preview
Thanks-
That would explain it.
This of course leads to the next question...How do I embed the fonts?

Re: Acrobat PDFs not readable in Mac Preview
....of course this makes me think of another question...
I made the documents on my machine (using InDesign), so why would these docs not work on my machine using Preview? The fonts are on my machine.

Re: Acrobat PDFs not readable in Mac Preview
OK- I got it to work.
I back tracked my steps in making the PDF from InDesign. Went under File > PDF Export Presets > Print. I click through each option looking for anything font related. Did not change a thing, just looked at each window/option. Hit Save. It works in Preview.
Open another file did the same thing except I did not click through the options in the Preset window. That one did not work when viewed in Preview.
Somehow by clicking through the options - but never changing any - makes them export to be viewable in Preview.
I do not know why it works as I am not changing anything or even turning on then off anything. Must be magic.
