Acrobat Pro 7.0.8 update prevents InDesign launching

Default Acrobat Pro 7.0.8 update prevents InDesign launching

This affects managed users (those without admin privileges).
After installing the Acrobat 7.0.7 update managed users were prevented from launching Acrobat.
The suggested fix is to install the 7.0.8 update, but this creates a new problem.

After applying the update InDesign will not launch, it hangs at the point where it is "Initialising SING Gaiji system" (or even earlier in the process if InDesign had not been previously launched).

I tried removing and reinstalling an earlier version of Acrobat; removing and reinstalling InDesign; deleting and recreating the user account - all to no avail.
At this point I restored the machine with a "safe" image and started over.

Machines are now working fine with Acrobat Pro 7.0.5; InDesign 4.0.3; Acrobat Reader 7.0.8.

What I would like to know is: What does the 7.0.8 update do to prevent InDesign launching? and What is the "critical security issue" that requires the 7.0.8 update.

Machines affected: all I've tested including G3s, G4s and G5s
System: Mac OS X Tiger (I've tested 10.4.6 and 10.4.7)
Software: Acrobat Pro; InDesign 4.0 and 4.0.3

Any advice will be most welcome,
    kind regards,
    kc

    KC,

I just converted a standard user to a manager users. I have Acrobat
7.0.8. I have OS X.4.7. And InDesign 4.0.4 works fine. You are at ID
4.0.3. Either something else is going on and it is special to your
systems or it is ID 4.0.3. It could be not that you have a managed
user, but what you are managing.

    Thanks for your input Mike.

I just tried InDesign 4.0.4 - but no luck, still won't launch.

I should clarify: the affected user accounts are local, on the actual computer and not managed via server software; it doesn't matter whether any further "parental controls" are enabled or not - only that administrator access isn't granted. If I turn administrator access on for the user then InDesign launches fine.

Since it hangs at the "initialising SING gaiji system" stage, might that tell us that at this point InDesign is trying to access something to which my users don't have access?
    Perhaps some bad permissions somewhere?

    Kind regards,

    KC,

I do not think this is an Acrobat problem, and is best handled in the
ID forum. My best guess is that this is a bad font problem,
alternatives are corrupted preference file, to a permissions problem.
I'd ask in the ID forum were people are more used to problems that
occur with ID. In terms of fonts I would look at the Chinese, Japanese,
and Korean fonts installed on your system.

Do a Forum Search or ask in the InDesign Mac forum. There is a tech note about solving the hanging on "initializing SING gaiji" message which has been referenced recently in a forum thread.

    Thanks again Steve and Mike,
Trashing some folders in the SING folder sorted the problem as per the technote Steve mentioned: <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331578.html>
    Kind regards,
