Default Acrobat reader 6 and error message while opening file

    Hi,

Some of my pdf files can not be opened under Acrobat reader 6.0.
When i try to open them, i get the folowwing error message : "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

but if i open these files with Acrobat reader 5.x, they work perfectly...

how can i fix this problem knowing that at work only acrobat reader 6.0 is used ?

    thanks a lot,
    Maileen

You could try asking in the Reader forum for more inspiration.

If it opens in Reader 5 then use Reader 5.

If you received the PDF by email then ask the sender to Zip the PDF before sending it as PDFs can become damaged in transit.

Also, check the producer of the PDF, File > Document Properties. It may be that the PDF was not produced using Adobe software and as such it may fall short of the standards required of Reader 6.

first of all, as i wrote, at work we only have acrobat 6 and not v5.x.

moreover, to check File > property didn't bring any information on pdf creator :(

and this file is not damage because i can open it with acrobat reader v5.x...

problem is somewhere else i think :(

    thanks anyway.

It all depends on how the pdf was created. If a third party pdf creator was used, it's very likely the pdf doesn't live up the (high) standards of the pdf specification and can therefore considered to be damaged.

Open the pdf in version 5 (you know it can be opened in 5 so someone must have it, if not go to the Acrobat reader text only download page and get it from there) and check the properties again.
