    Default Acrobat settings in AICS

Distiller has settings for resolution and colour. Now that we are forced to use AICS for creating pdfs, is setting the resolution no longer necessary? Also is there a way to save a pdf in RGB (smaller for e-mailing?) Can I import the distiller settings to AICS?

    thx

You can't import Distiller settings in CS. If you had Illustrator CS2, you'd share the same settings files in all the Creative Suite applications, including Illustrator and Distiller.

For what you're trying to do in Illustrator CS, I'd go to the Print dialog box, and choose PostScript as your printer, and Adobe PDF as your PPD and create a PostScript file. Then process that through Distiller as Jon says.

Your current ticket with the direct PDF export has transparency stamped
(PDF 1.4 and above) but does not have the advanced fine-tune
    capabilities of Distiller.

The simple solution is to continue through the SAVE-AS technique and
then maybe use Acrobat 7 Professional for the RGB conversion ....
