Default Acrobat Stalls When I Try To Create A Fillable Field

I just discovered that neither my 7.0.8 Acrobat Professional nor my 6.0.2 will allow the creation of fillable fields. I've tried different PDFs but the result is the same on both: when I drag-out a text form field or a radio box or any of the fillable areas, I get the spinning beach ball and the (not responding) message in the Force Quit window. I tried deleting and reinstalling, to no avail. They used to work just fine, so what happened? Did some recent OS update from Apple flumox it or did Adobe do something? WTF?

I'm running it on a dual 1 GHz G4 loaded with OS X 10.4.7 and with beaucoup RAM.

How many fonts do you have loaded/active?

Not too many. I manage them with Suitcase, and none of these are currently active. I did, however, remove most of the non-essential fonts from the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts folder. I replaced them all to see if this would correct the problem, but no luck there. Is there an underlying font issue here?

    James,

Since it is two different programs having similar programs, one thing
to look at are things that could cause both to go boom. Fonts are
known problems. Especially if they are corrupt. So you might try to see
if there is a corrupt font? I doubt it will help but you could try to
fix permissions as look for directory problems with a utility like Disk
Warrior, but then I'll admit that I'll recommend those procedures
    whenever things get flakey.

A good font Program is Font Doctor X. They will even allow you to download a crippleware version that allows you to run test but not fix the problems even that version detects a corrupt font.

another problem that hurts any application including Acrobat if font caches. download and use the latest version of YASU for your version of OSX. and have it remove all Font caches. the first time used a new one will be created but won't or shouldn't be corrupt.
