Default Acrobat Toolbars in other Applications (MS Excel, Word, etc.)

Starting with Acrobat 7 (I think), I now have the Acrobat Toolbar up as a separate line of toolbars (by itself) by default whenever I open a Word or Excel document.

Yes, I can click to close the bar, but there doesn't seem to be a place to remove it (by default) and only select it when I need it. If anyone knows how to deselect these bars in the preferences or options or wherever they are stored, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks!

There is an item called PDFMaker That is available in Word, Excel, PowerPoint. If it was well behaved and would stay where you would put it , it wouldn't quite be the nuisance it is. At least in 7 it does do what its supposed to Prior to 7 it would not.

Here is the permanent to banish them:

This technique depends upon a rule of Unix : You cannot replace a Folder with a file of the exact same name.

    1) Locate the files called PDFmaker. There should be three versions.
    one for Word
    one for Excel
    one for PowerPoint

    2) on desktop create three empty Folders
Name each exactly as each to the PDFMaker's that are example for Word:
    PDFMaker.dot

3 locate each file in turn. Move each file in turn to Trash. Then replace Folder with equivalent Name, to place original was removed.

    4) Open Acrobat and/or Reader got to Help menu open "Detect & Repair" uncheck item for PDF Maker. Close Acrobat and/or Reader.

Unchecking from just Acrobat will not actually help though it will stop on this end.

The sad Fact is that OfficeX or Office2004 has an automatic Detect and Repair feature They call "Self-Healing" feature that is buried so far down in it bowels, I have yet to find where to turn it. off.

So this method is far easier and cures the problem permanently, unless you install a new new system in which case you have to do all over again.

    Thanks,

I will try that. Sounds more like a MS problem than an Adobe problem, but the fix sounds like it will work, regardless of how complicated Adobe and MS have made their product interfaces.

I'll let you know how it works.

Both Office and Adobe have this self-healing feature. If you turn it off in one it still get self-healed. If you turn off in the other and not both you still get the self-heal. So this is the "best" method.
