Default add overlay problem

hi !

I've tried for many days to make rollover text on 3d surface to display
information relative to the object under the mouse event.

I bought a f...... priceless book and i ve read all the topics i could find
which talks about this problem but it seems that none of them can really
help me!!!!! Why ? WHYYY?

I even thaught to work with Cult 3D who seem more user friendly for newbie
lingo or java programer like me, isn't it?

Pleeeeaaaaze help me guys!! i'm sure i'm not so far of the solution but i
can't stand it any more.

I finally tried this script with the expecting result of displaying the info
text on the left of the selected 3D surface but my text is displayed on the
top left corner of my 3D world and i can't figure it out how to erase the
text when the mouse roll-out the surface.

on mouseWithin (me)
obj = member("3D")
mousePt = the mouseLoc - point(sprite(1).left, sprite(1).top)
textImage = member("roll").image
rollTex = obj.newtexture("jTexture", #fromImageObject, textImage)

-- update the mouse down property
thisSprite = sprite(me.spriteNum)
theLoc = the mouseLoc - point(sprite(thisSprite).left,
sprite(thisSprite).top)
theModel = sprite(thisSprite).camera(1).modelUnderLoc(theLoc)

if theModel = member("3D").model("Controller") then
obj.camera(1).addOverlay(rollTex, point(0,0), 0)
obj.camera(1).overlay[1].loc = mousePt+point(10,-5)
end if
end mouseWithin

OOOooh gods of lingo talk to me!

Default Re:add overlay problem

well your using the wrong handler for a start

use

on mouseenter me

and

on mouseleave me

Try this page on my site - it deals with backdrops which are actually just overlays as far as lingo is concerned( Just replace the word overlay where you see the word backdrop)

http://www.geocities.com/hairybobby2000/3tutebackdrop.html

thats not exactly what your after but it'll have to do for now - it shows you how to create an overlay andmove it about. with this behavior I would create an overlay then make it visible when mouseenter and invisible when mouseleave.

for helpful tutorials try this site - its really clear

and heres my links page - there are other helpful tutorials out there
