Add Point tool won't add point

I'm an Illustrator novice. I was tearing my hair out trying to get the add point tool to add a point to a path. It refused. I finally got it to work by turning off Snap to Grid. Is this performing as designed or a bug on my end?

Mike, in future - it would be of great help if you mentioned the version of AI you're using. Meanwhile: do you select the path you want to add points to? You should.

Oops... I'm using Illustrator CS. It doesn't matter if I select the path or not. If Snap to Grid is on, the add point tool does not work.

Mike, I just tried it in CS and got the same result with both Snap to Point and Snap to Grid. It makes sense that if you click on a position on the path that doesn't intersect the grid or a point, the tool will snap to the nearest point or grid line, where it won't find a path. At least it makes sense to me, but then it's been a long day...

Oh, geez... I didn't see that "Snap To Grid" part :) Yes, that makes sense, like Toni points out, and yes, that's how it works :)
