I thought a while back (might of even been back in ai 9 )that I added color to a grayscale image or a jpg/tif and it seemed like I did it in the transparency pallet, but now I can't figure it out in CS.
thanks in advance!

Re: Adding Color to Image
Carol,
you can do that with transparency masks. Please have a look at Studio Exchange. There you can find two actions that automate colouring raster images, one solution from John Kallios and one of mine.

Re: Adding Color to Image
The opacity mask method.
Create a rectangle fill the same size as the image, filled with the desired swatch color and placed directly in back of the image. Select both and apply inverted clipped opacity mask.
The image is now colored to the desired swatch.
Note: this method introduces transparency to your document.
